School / Daycare Transfer

Notify the current school and register children at the new school district or daycare center.

Book time off work

Request a day off for the move. Check your employee handbook to see if your company offers specific moving leave.

30 Days Out: Admin & Government

Government Agencies & Tax

Notify tax authorities (IRS/HMRC) and social security services of your new address.

Update Vehicle Registration

Update your driver's license and registration (DMV in the US / DVLA in the UK). Deadlines are often strict (e.g., 30 days).

Voter Registration

Update your voter registration to ensure you can vote in your new district/constituency.

15 Days Out: Utilities & Internet

Set up Energy (Gas/Electric)

Don't cancel the old one yet! Schedule the shut-off for after you leave and start service at the new place for move-in day.

Transfer Internet Service

ISP transfers can take 2-3 weeks. Schedule this early to avoid downtime.

Water Utility

If moving to a house, contact the local water department. In apartments/condos, this is often handled by the management.

Home/Renters Insurance

Coverage must start the day you get the keys. Transfer or purchase a new policy for the new address.

7 Days Out: Banks & Insurance

Notify the Bank

Update your billing address in your banking app to ensure cards and statements go to the right place.

Car Insurance

Health Insurance / Doctor

Update your address with your health provider and register with a new GP/Doctor if moving far away.

Update your contact info in the national pet database so your pet can be returned if lost.

Moving Day & After

Read Meters (Old & New)

Take photos of water, gas, and electricity meters at both properties to avoid billing disputes.

Mailbox Label

Put your name on the new mailbox immediately so the mail carrier can deliver your post.

HR Department / Employer

Update your address for payroll and tax forms.

Mail Forwarding

Set up mail forwarding (USPS Change of Address or Royal Mail Redirection) to catch any forgotten mail.
